Traditionally a bowl cozy has been used for serving hot soup. I am here to tell you they're not just for soup anymore!
DENIM BOWL COZIES all started for me a couple of months ago when I visited a friend, who is an avid SEWER and an overall amazing ARTIST. (Among the many job titles of her long life Professional Portrait Artist is one of them. AMAZING!) ANYWAY, she had a few cozies sitting out. They were so PRETTY made out of brightly colored quilting fabric. They reminded me of flowers with pointy petals.
I love FLOWERS and SOUP! I immediately hatched a plan to ask her to show me how to make them AND then I was going make them out of denim! Like any GOOD FRIEND she was HAPPY to oblige me.
These soup bowls really appealed to me BUT I had a problem.
I love soup and the COZIES are so CUTE! BUT...I am somewhat of a minimalist. I have a hard time justifying the space a glorified hot pad takes up if I am only going to use it when I eat soup. I have a small kitchen and I have done my share of collecting cool stuff for “SOMEDAY”. I really try hard make stuff in the kitchen earn their keep.
Back to my DILEMMA...MY JUSTIFICATION for me having them.
I LOVE SOUP AND I have a daughter who also loves soup...
When I saw my first bowl cozy, I was IMMEDIATELY interested. AND regardless of MY minimalistic tendencies, I rationalized I could make soup bowl cozies for her. My first 2 cozies were for her.
Since those first 2 cozies, my mind has continued to come up with reasons why BOWL COZIES are useful and I am very happy to say, I have my JUSTIFICATION... ICE CREAM!
OK, for me that is a STRETCH ...I love ice cream but I rarely eat it...unlike the rest of my family and nobody has needed a hot pad to keep from getting FROSTBITE yet. (Let me just say it is still a VALID idea.) The ideas that came next really got me EXCITED though.
BOWL COZIES could be great forPOTLUCKS & PICNICS where you may want to insulate something (to keep it hot or cold) AND also have a PRETTY PRESENTATION. I am not sure how much insulating power a cozy has but I know it has to have something...AND that power could be increased with a cold pack (or ice disc) or hot pack (heated rice pack) set in the bottom of a cozy. Cozies have the ability to add to a table’s PIZZAZZ too. It’s a FUN way to add color and interest to a table.
Cozies are ALSO pretty cool bowls all on their own. One cozy for chips AND another for salsa. CUTE & TASTY!
Another idea: movie night POPCORN BOWLS...cleaning is as easy as throwing them into the wash.
